Hotdesk Printing

We all know the classic way of printing. You start your application, select a document to print, select yourdefault or another printer from your, sometimes extensive, list of printers and walk to the printer to collect your printed document.

In most large office environments, the user is almost automatically challenged, to what printer did he send hisdocument and will it be there to pick it up before someone else could read it. Or even worse did somebody put it through the shredder, or in case the user works in a company with branches all over the world, it could be possible that a classified document was printed in another geographic location, and so on. PowerVDC already enables you with a feature called hotdesking. You insert a smartcard into a PowerVDC to work with your documents. When you pull out your smartcard and walk to another PowerVDC where you put your smartcard back in again, you can continue with the document where you left it off on that other PowerVDC workstation.

This feature can also be used for Hot Desk printing. We developed a method that enables you to put yoursmartcard into a PowerVDC connected to a printer and to collect your printed documents from the printer you hotdesked too without specifying a printer at all! This means you can just walk to the printer you prefer (for example because it prints in colour) and collect your document right then and there!

The advantages are evident:

• No printer selection before printing a document, but to be printed documents are available in yourpersonalized print queue
• Printing easy at any time and any place (=printer) you want
• A higher level of security, classified documents will not fall into the wrong hands
• You don't have to search for the printer you document was printed too
• Printed documents that weren't picked up from the print queue, will not be printed, the queue can be emptied after a preset time
• No more paper goes to waste because it was printed to to wrong printer (save toner and paper,improve sustainability)
