Power over Ethernet
The R&D-branch of cards OEM Solutions recently developed a prototype of a dongle that enables you to even increase the flexibility and mobility and not in the least the already extremely low power consumption of the PowerVDC. This by using the technology of Power over Ethernet. It is our intention to take it into production. Power over Ethernet, PoE, is a technology to provide electricity as well as data by a twisted pair-cable in a Ethernet-network.
The advantages are:
- No need for a power outlet at the desktop for the PowerVDC.
- Higher uptime, since the power supplies in PoE switches are very well designed.
- Higher efficiency of the power supply.
- Less cabling at the desktop.
- Make more use of existing PoE switches (usually only used for
IP phones in VOIP environments)
The dongle will be a small device that connects to both the RJ-45 and the power connector on the PowerVDC and has an Ethernet RJ-45 connector to connect the PoE Ethernet cable to from the outlet. By using PoE you no longer need an extra power adapter. Talking about flexibility and mobility!
